I firmly believe that supporting diversity initiatives and creating safe, equitable, and inclusive spaces for all people will lead to the betterment of science as a whole.

To this end, I commit to taking the following actions to uphold these ideals:

  • Mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds,

  • Recognizing my own privileges and limitations as a mentor,

  • Building supportive networks for my mentees,

  • Implementing best practices for creating and maintaining inclusive environments, and

  • Listening to and amplifying voices that have been historically marginalized and excluded in the sciences.

I will undoubtedly make mistakes while in pursuit of these endeavors. When I do, I will admit to these mistakes, educate myself, and learn from them. I will continuously strive to cultivate an environment where individuals feel respected, valued, and visible regardless of their biological sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, disability, or any other facet of identity.
